Acas Response to ONS gender pay gap statistics

Tuesday 29 October 2019

Responding to the ONS gender pay gap results showing the gender pay gap in the UK has increased, Acas Head of Diversity and Inclusion, Julie Dennis, said:

"While it's disappointing to see that the gender pay gap has increased slightly this year, hopefully this is as a result of businesses taking steps to improve their gap in the long term.

"Improving the gender pay gap should be a top priority for businesses as doing so is of benefit to individuals, organisations and the economy. In a tight labour market struggling with productivity it is even more pertinent that women are given the same opportunities to reach their full potential.

"Acas has guidance on gender pay reporting that provides businesses with practical advice on how to carry out the calculations. The guidance also includes ways businesses can help reduce their gap by introducing things such as family friendly and flexible working."
